George Gould

Lost in translation (a.k.a. Whipping boy).

Been off the Kool-Aid for 3+ years and doing great. My Schwab reports are substantially thinner since the glory days of the bubble, but fantasies don’t last forever…and sooner or later you have to leave Never Land and grow up (well, most of us do). Riding the SOA (AquaLogic) wave at BEA and now report to our CTO running a worldwide group of overpaid SOA architects (but wouldn’t trade them for the world). Expanding the family by one with a little girl, Sage, in 2003. Happy trails.

Business Development Associate Sept. 2000-Jan. 2002. I think I was employee #14 or something.

Went back to the finance world and work for private equity investment firm TA Associates (www.ta.com). My job is basically to find interesting companies to invest in. Funny side note: the firm upstairs from us, Foundation Capital, just did Talaris' last round :P They also had a partner that died from a drug overdose.... In my free time, I'm still playing volleyball, trying to squeeze in some travel, and I'm starting to do some wedding planning because I got engaged over Christmas!

Also performed various other tasks such as network administration and server and UI development as necessary at a very early stage startup. I think I was employee #10, and engineer #4. I think back on the time spent there as a unique intensely personal and life-changing experience.

Talaris product manager from 2/01 - 10/04 (version .7 through 2.5).

I'm a product manager at CTB/McGraw-Hill, responsible for diagnostic assessment products and technology innovations.   We are the leading provider of standardized assessments in K-12 education.  Quite a switch from the Gazoo/Talaris/Rearden Commerce days, but working in education has been a welcome change for me.   If your kids are in public school, we make something similar to the "STAR" test.  I specialize in K- grade 12 science assessments as well as preK - grade 3 literacy and math assessments.
